Tods

INTRODUCTION

Tod's are among the leading global players which produce and sell shoes and luxury leather goods, with high profile brand names Tod's and Hogan, dealing also in the casual wear sector with the brand FAY.

Tod's S.p.A. is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange with a market capitalisation of €1,350 million, a turnover of €700 million in 2008 and 2,800 employees. The Group is based in Ascoli Piceno, Italy and operates 9 factories and about 100 boutiques in over 25 countries throughout Europe, North America and the rest of the world.

CHALLENGES

The executive management of the Group's headquarters felt a growing need to fully protect confidential information exchanged between directors and managers daily. They began searching for ways to guarantee maximum confidentiality of data while still allowing data to be exchanged efficiently.

The company's main requirements for the solution were:

  • High availability
  • Business continuity
  • Reliable prevention of non-authorized access to confidential data, even from system administrators and other IT staff.

SOLUTION

Tod's decided to adopt a solution based on Boole Server™ Enterprise Edition installed on two clustered servers to apply failover and load balancing capabilities.

The implemented system encrypts files both stored on the server and transmitted from one client to another.

Only authorized profiles are able to access the content of protected files using the Boole Client application: not even the System Administrators responsible for the configuration of the server or network are able to decipher the data protected by the system.

Any operation carried out inside of the Boole Server™ network is monitored by an advanced system of Auditing that allows top-level management to see who has accessed each file, when and which operations they have carried out on them.

Furthermore, a custom functionality was developed so that administrative staff can work directly on the encrypted files without compromising their protection.

RESULTS

Tod's executive management now has the assurance  that their confidential data is secured by a robust, scalable  system throughout all common daily operations and exchanges, and that unauthorized personnel cannot have access to files, folders or instant messaging conversations, not even IT administrators in charge of data storage, networks or the Boole Server™ system itself.

Despite the high levels of protection and control of the Boole Server™ solution, there is no complexity of use or management: a friendly and intuitive interface allowed authorized users and data owners to easily and immediately access or apply rights on files and folders, making the system adoption fast and simple for all managers and directors.

"Boole Server™ has proven to be a reliable system and a valuable instrument to ensure that sensitive information, exchanged on a daily basis by our management, is kept confidential at all times, without any risks of loss, leakage or interception. It combines the complexity of maximum security with the most simple user modules: a fundamental aspect when choosing this solution over others."
